Meet Marcie
Marcie McCutchen's life changed in the winter of 1994, when she viewed a segment about personal chefs on a popular TV morning show. A college student pursuing a court reporting degree, she realized her true calling was in the culinary arts; so, she quickly changed course and stirred up a hot new career. Since childhood Marcie has been passionate about cooking and collecting recipes. She treasures memories of cooking up family favorites with both of her Grandmothers and parents. She now has recipes from both Grandmothers personal collections and truly believes they passed on their love of cooking to her.
Less than three years later, business was booming for this enthusiastic self-taught
chef. During the first five years, Marcie cooked in each client's home, bringing
everything from her collection of pots and pans to a briefcase full of spices.
As her client list steadily increased, she decided to make the jump to a commercial
kitchen. In January of 2001, Marcie moved into her former location in Stafford.
In January of 2003, Marcie launched her spa menu and was invited to introduce
the service on ABC Channel 13 in Houston. "The spa meals started out as an experiment
and have been so well received that I often wonder why I waited so long to offer
them," says Marcie who consults with a personal trainer. She says, "We have
found that the low-fat meals and personalized workouts go hand in hand, and
we have a lot of the same clients. We are helping people reach their fitness
and nutrition goals."As business grew steadily, it became necessary to find
a larger location as they added catering services to the line up. In April of
2005 Chef for You moved to their current location in Sugar Land.
Marcie served as President of the local chapter of the U.S. Personal Chef Association
for five years and has been a mentor and trainer to many others in the field.
She has been featured in numerous publications such as the Houston Chronicle,
Fort Bend Lifestyle and Homes, Personal Chef Magazine, Upclose Magazine, Sugar
Land Sun, and her recipes have been published in the USPCA'S recipe books and
"Treasures of the Bend" Ft. Bend Jr. Service League Cookbook. Chef
for You has been a member of the U.S. Personal Chef Association since 1994 and
has been a member of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce since 2002. In Novembr
2009 Marcie was featured on Fox News sharing creative ideas for utilizing Thanksgiving
leftovers. For the past five years, Chef for You has been named as best caterer
in Fort Bend County. Marcie has donated time and resources to the Gulf Coast
Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Society, and supports other community events
by donating gift certificates. Marcie is currently serving as a board member
of Shape Up Sugar Land.
Marcie resides in Sugar Land, about 1 mile from "the kitchen" with
her husband, Glenn, and black and tan cocker spaniel, Tanner. She enjoys spending
time working in her herb and flower gardens and considers working out at the
gym and at home her part-time job! To hone her skills, she frequently provided
assistance to some of her favorite chefs who taught classes at Le Panier Cooking
School in Houston, which has since closed. She considers the owner of the school,
LaVerl Daily, her mentor. Marcie was asked to assist LaVerl in her cooking classes
soon after launching her business. There she became aquatinted with and also
assisted two of her favorite chefs, Hugh Carpenter of Napa Valley and Terry
Conlan, of Lake Austin Spa Resort when they came to teach at Le Panier. "I will
be always be grateful to LaVerl for allowing me the opportunity to work with
her andher instructors," said Marcie.
